Saint names

Hey guys, my brother recently asked me this question and I didn't know how to answer him, Why is there always the word mari before a saint's name.. i.e. MariMina, MariGirgis, etc.. Their names are not Mari.. it's jus the second part..So what does it mean or why is it there??

I think Mari means like "Saint" like Saint george is Marigirgis, but I may be wrong :-\

a) its not Mari, its Mar. we have all been saying it wrong
