Commentary for the Ascension Feast :: طرح لعيد الصعود

Watos:

Our Savior stood in the midst of His Disciples and gave them peace and showed them His hands, saying,

"Look at My hands and My feet and touch Me. It is I." And while they were in shock and disbelief,

He said to them, "My brethren and Disciples, do you have something to eat?" And they quickly offered Him some broiled fish and honey comb. As for Him, He proceeded to eat before their eyes in order to fulfill the Scriptures and thus He proceeded to open their hearts so that they may understand what was written: "It was necessary for the Christ to suffer for us and His name may be preached in all the nations and so that anyone who believes in Him may obtain the forgiveness of their sins. As for you My chosen ones, stay in Jerusalem until I send you my Father´s promise. For I am going to My Father who sent Me. And when I go, I will ask Him for you that He may send you the Holy Spirit the Comforter to be with you forever."

And so He took them to Bethany and raised His hands and blessed them and ascended to heaven. As for them, they bowed down worshiping Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.

Our teacher and pure evangelist, Luke the wise and perceptive, taught us the joy of the Ascension of our great Savior. He wrote to the great disciple Theophilus, the righteous and wise, of all the marvelous miracles including the appearance of the Savior after His Resurrection. He then spoke to them about the mysteries that He knew so they asked Him, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem and in all the earth."

Then He raised His hands and blessed them and was taken up from them and a cloud received Him ascending to the heights while they watched Him rising up to heaven. As they walked towards Jerusalem, amazed and baffled, they looked and behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who said to them, "Men of Galilee, our brethren, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

And thus, they went with great joy to the upper room on Mount Zion. And all the Disciples along with the pure Virgin, Mary the Mother of Jesus speaking to each other about what had happened. As for us, we ask the Holder of the treasures of mercy, our Lord Jesus Christ, to forgive us our sins and to keep us in righteousness and purity all the days of our life and to save us from the burdens of this world and to protect us from the evil of the disobedient. Amen.
