A Stranger :: غريب

As a stranger I lived in this world, a guest like my fathers.
A stranger in my ways, thoughts and humor.
As a stranger, I could not find a hearer, to tell him my opinions. (2)

The people are puzzled by my sympathy, not knowing my epidemic.
The people swim in pasture, with uproar and noise.
And isolate myself here, with my meek and little heart.
As a stranger, I could not find a home, or a corner for my shelter. (2)

I left the world´s charms, and did not accept its calling.
I began preparing for travel, far from its pleasures.
An empty heart I wish not, to fill with any of its inspirations.
A fair hearing I listen not, to the noise of its dwellers.
I roam here alone, happy in its valleys.

With harps and psalms, and hymns I sing.
And holy hours, contemplating about my Creator.
I walk around like a ghost, who swims to eyeball the seer.
As a stranger I lived in this world, a guest like my fathers.

I gained my life and no honor, concerns me or money.
And no home disrupts me, nor friends or family.
Here in the monastery verses, and proverbs that comfort me.
Here, the gospel is a lamp, which cannot be covered with a basket.
Here, the monks do not fear, bars and shackles.
And the world does not amuse us, to retreat and accept.
I tell every devil, who wishes to tempt me.
Beware that I live, as a stranger like my fathers.
