HI all,
This sunday, I served in the altar and as I have been taught,
I blew my candle as soon as the church started singing Amen, Amen, Amen...
An uncle told me that I should keep my candle until the Holy Spirit comes down
upon the offerings.
Which one is right?
Regarding the candles, I:
Light it when abouna says: He instituted for us...
Off when we say: Amen, Amen, Amen...
Light when abouna says the Intro of the fraction
Off after we say: our Father...
Light when abouna says: Remember our congregation...
Off when we say: Doxasi...
I don't wan't to know for being right I just would like to do the right thing.
Does anyone know what the rites of the church says about this?
Hope to get an answer soon,
Cyril

the thing is that we need to fully bow down and worship after these times.
during the Descent of the Holy Spirit there should be atleast one deacon holding a candle while, as the rest of the deacon's should be doing, be fully bowing down....NOT LOOKING at the altar (some close the eyes).
I don't know if I understand what you are trying to say,
anyways, should we keep our candles lit until the Holy Spirit
descends on it or should I kill the candle after the Amen, Amen part?
I appreciate your answers,
Cyril
Thanks for your answer.

i say, as i was taught....kill it and fully bow downs with closed eye....except if you are that one (or 2) deacon(s) i am talking about. Actually, i think Anba Serapion have strong clear rules about this because they dealt with fires caused by deacons bowing down with candles or generally not being careful with a flame in general.
with a candles lit they can "Kill" it or they can keep it BUT they must
keep the candle high as to light the body and blood.
Is that right?
I have been told that all deacons should bow and if there are any deacons
with a candles lit they can "Kill" it or they can keep it BUT they must
keep the candle high as to light the body and blood.
Is that right?
it's acceptable....
