What is the difference between Holy Oil (the ones in little jars usually with a picture in it) and Mayroon? Why can't we (everyone but priests, bishops and Pope) touch/use the holy Mayroon even though it has the same Holy Spirit as the Holy Oil?
Holy oil is a type of oil that is the result of praying certain prayers like that of the Unction of the sick or that is prayed during the Apocalypse vigil. This oil is used for blessing and can be taken by the laity for blessing.
The Myroon is the oil that was received in the Church by the Apostles and contains the spices that actually touched the body of our Lord. The Myroon is used in the sacrament of confirmation so that the newly baptized may receive the Holy Spirit.
It is the priest only who can administer the sacraments and so he is the only one allowed to carry the Myroon and the communion (the body and the blood of our Lord).
