What does this verse in Revelation mean?

1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a[a] thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

okay, so im am having trouble with the book of Revelation.. it seems like it doesnt go in chronological order..

it seems like at the second coming of Christ, Satan will be tied up for 1000, and then deceive people, but there will be no more earth, so how can this be?

so i realized, this book is not in logical order, but kinda mixed around, so wud u say that when Jesus was crucifed and died,, he tied up satan for 1000 yrs (which cud be more or less for the Lord) and when that time is up, he will come as The AntiChrist..
cuz they mentioned this after the Second Coming of Jesus which really confused me..

The events spoken of in the passage in question are all prior to the second coming of Christ. Through Christ's saving work on the Cross, satan is bound for a thousand years (not to be taken literally, but rather, metaphorically denoting a long period of time), which is the age of the Church - the period between the first and second coming of Christ. Though Satan is prevented from deceiving the nations, such that the Church may live, survive, and prevail, even through its times of persecutions, he will be released for a short while near the end of this "millenium" - this is the point where the events of the "last days" shall take place.

I would also like to add, as a second note, that the thousand years mentioned first are methaphorical in the sense that the interval of time is representative of time upon the earth. As our Lord and King reigns, His reign is the present soverignty in this day and age. Is He not our King of glory this very moment in time? As mentioned by the preliminary reponse, the amount of years are not literal but symbolic.

The second battle mentioned is the analogical depiction of the war Satan's angels (demons of the unseen world) will hold against our King. Just as their are many Anti-Christs, so we can deciepher their is spirtual battle taking place even now. Just turn to our nation's secularism or pluraistic beliefs as one example.

Furthermore, just as with the timing in Genesis, Revelations is not meant to chronologically flow as much as it is meant to demonstrate the significance of the events that will occur and are occuring. God Himself is timeless and the visions He allots for Saint John are meant to prepare us spirtually rather then to give us a specific time frame.
I believe the events must occur, but not by the physicality or progressus (process of time) of an earthly sense. The revelation was one visualized in front of God's throne "set in heaven" (Rev 4:2) and, thus, is inherently based on the timeframe of God Himself.
