2 Thessalonians 3:6-18 ?

I want an explanation for this.. maybe I understand it already but im not sure...

and are there people who follow this today (ofcourse it seems so but are there many? )? does it mean dont eat with lazy busybodies or keep company with them?

2 Thessalonians 3 (King James Version)
6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

8Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

9Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

11For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

12Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

16Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

17The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write.

18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

  • There are those who will incessantly host upon others and their work, not considering the amount of work that has been placed. In fact, they wittingly abuse the other person's possesions because it enables them with self gratification.

Saint Paul is cautioning the church to behave gracefully, always considering others before themsleves. The Saint explains that men ought to work for their food rather then feast on their brother's hard labor incessantly (The exception is if you are invited to partake of the fruits of others. The point being, that you should not abuse others and what they have established)

Here, Saint Paul is specifically reffering to admonition of the brothers. In other words, the gospel remarks that men should not keep company with other Christians who insist on taking advantage of others. Yet, being that they are our brothers we must do so kindly, in admonition...., not hate or derison.

Be discerning. If you know a younger Christian who tends to take advantage of you, (a younger kid, prehaps) teach him to earn what he takes. If there is a Christian your own age who takes adavantage of you, keep a distance from him. If he asks why, tell him reason with him your dillemah.

    God Bless
  • I thought you are meant to let people take advantage of you sometimes... if someone asks you to go 1 mile go with him 2... give to him who asks of you..

and there is a time to be assertive... need discretion (which I lack of maybe - I might not have been tested yet or I have but I dont consider it?)

  • If someone rings your house asking you to pick them up from some place when you know you need to get things done.. should you do it? is this person taking advantage of you?
