I need help with this!
Our Church, and other Orthodox churches have numerous material coving all topics relating to one's spiritual life. Most of our books are relatively cheap also, costing no more than 2-3 dollars each. It only makes sense that a true Coptic Orthodox will engage with Coptic Orthodox material; there's plenty out there to keep you occupied, believe me.
But I know we ought to obey God rather than man.. when a priest says to do something you know against Gods word and will? you must not do it... but I think God can sometimes speak differently to people through different priests.. things that are not clearly sin I think?
Also I want to add It was a protestant site I think that helped bring me back to Christ from a horrible lifestyle of sin... But I believe the orthodox beliefs.. I came back to the orthodox church after that I think.
I can admit that non-Orthodox Christians can, at times, write beneficial and enlightening material pertaining to those subjects which they adhere to the truth with respect to, but in my honest opinion, an Orthodox Christian should only read such material if he is already well-grounded in his Orthodoxy i.e. past the fundamental stage of inquiry - that they may extract the fruits of such material, as opposed to reading such material for educational purposes - which should be left to the Orthodox stuff.
I suggest that maybe you put forth these ideas with your FOC and see what he has to say about that.
I think His Holiness Pope Shenouda III covers alot of the "spiritual stuff" quite well i.e. issues like how to deal with evil, sin, suffering etc. Have you read his books Spiritual Warfare? The Spiritual Man?
if you can know??
And what do you think about reading catholic articles?
