From the Holy Bible and the Jewish culture at the time of Christ. There are many points which we must understand first, according to the Jewish customs at the time of Christ: 1- The day starts from the night of the day before till the night of the next day, according to what God described the day in the Book of Genesis.” And there was evening and there was morning, one day.: Genesis 1:5 2- The Jews divided the day into hours , the first, second, third and so on. The day are12 hours and the night of the previous day another 12 hours. 3- So if the day starts at 6 O’clock in the morning and this is the first hour , the 3rd hour is the 9 O’clock 3rd = 9 O’clock 6th = 12 O’clock 9th = 3 O’clock afternoon 11th = 5 O’clock “ sunset “ 12th = night time 4- Our Lord and God was on the Cross from the 6th hour to the 9th hour, “ And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. “John 5- The other two thieves were still alive at the 9th hour “Since it was the day of Preparation, in order to prevent the bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. ................” John 19:31
6- The night was approaching and the Sabbath is about to start in a couple of hours, so the soldiers came with this idea of breaking their feet. The Lord was still hanging on the cross for a time, although He already had committed his Spirit to the Hand of Father. 7- At the 11th hour, sunset, the Bible mentioned: “When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathe'a, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. And Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud, and laid it in his own new tomb,” Matthew 27:57-60 8- The preparation to bury a body according to Jewish custom is a long process that would take an hour and must be done before the start of the Sabbath. So the burying time was the 12th hour, just before the start of a new day, the Sabbath.
