question on the garden of eden

Hey everybody,

The whole story of Adam and Eve and the garden of eden confuses me. What was the garden of eden? Was it paradise, heaven, or a garden on earth? Originally, I thought that it was part of earth because the Bible says that the Euphrates river runs through it. But, it doesn't make sense that it is on earth, because the tree of life is in the garden, and I thought the tree of life is in Paradise, because in Revelation 2:7, it says that the tree of life is in the midst of the Paradise of God. So, how can Paradise be on Earth? And if the garden is on earth, wouldn't there still be an angel gaurding the garden so no one will eat from the tree of life? Or, did God remove the tree of life from the garden? Also, if the garden is in Paradise, then how come the devil was able to go there, and why would God allow the devil to enter Paradise?
I'm just totally confused on this.
