Hi,
I just wanted to create a thread to also highlight the positive aspects of the Coptic Language, and see what you all think. Its true perhaps its not a language that we think in daily, but it has some very powerful and useful functions in the life of a Coptic Christian:
a) Let's say a French or non-English speaking person becomes Coptic Orthodox, and they find themselves say in London. If they don't speak Englsih, then praying the mass or liturgy in Coptic is great as if they learnt the translation of what they are singing in Coptic in their own mother tongue, then when they change Churches, the same hymns in Coptic are still sung, and they can still participate.
b) Also, the world looks to the middle east now and sees an image, that frankly, no one is really proud of. All the good things in middle eastern history date back since the Coptic era. Therefore, keeping our language should be considered as a national heritage. I mean, the Coptic scholars, and thinkers and intellects had much to offer mankind. Our language is national treasure in fact.
c) Another benefit is that it is still similar to Greek, and for those wishing to learn Greek, knowing Coptic will definately be an asset.
What do you all think?
