Slain in Spirit

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church
Hi,

I'm sure many of you are aware of this term, or at least of what it looks like: Its a very charismatic behaviour where someone is prayed on - and they fall over. If you remember, Abouna Daniel did this (before he got excommunicated).

I'd like to know - did Fr. Matta El Maskeen do this also? Was he also promoting such spirituality?

I just heard that he encouraged this, but I'm not sure. Please can someone shed some light onto this.

Also, can anyone confirm whether this is something "real" or not? Is it Orthodox or not?

  • Definitely not orthodox! Nor is it real! Hence, his excommunication...

Wait a sec.. you are saying that Matta Al Maskeen was ex-communicated BECAUSE of the slain in spirit stuff he was doing?

Can you confirm that he was engaging in that?
