It would be hard to carry on as if nothing had happened, but if we remember that we are also great sinners then we should not find ourselves in a position where we allow ourselves to act as blameless before God.
A person might fall into the sin of adultery, but I know that I am also a sinner and betray those around me, and my God, in thoughts and deeds without cease. It seems to me that we must be careful not to easily set one sin above all others, though this is not to discount its seriousness.
