New audio lecture by Father Peter

edited December 1969 in Faith Issues
I have recorded a new audio lecture called Born Protestant, Become Orthodox.

When I have revised it a bit I will try to record it as a DVD, God willing.

If you want to hear it you can find it on the media page here...

http://www.orthodoxmedway.org/media.php

If you like it then share it with others. It will be the first of quite a few considering various aspects of our Orthodox faith and protestantism if God provides me the time to produce some more.

God bless

Father Peter

  • Shall I make it in a YouTube video for you?
  • No thanks, I am not a big fan of Youtube.
  • Your youth story sounds a lot like mine, Fr. Peter, only I went to Mexico, not Senegal.

I can only pray that my story ends up as yours has (not necessarily the priest part, but definitely the Orthodox part). God bless you for sharing your story in this wonderful sermon. It is very helpful.
  • I'm still laughing at crackers and soda for communion!  :D

I like this sermon a lot, Father. I definitely benefited and learned a lot :)

    Thanks for sharing!
  • What methods / medium methods would you like us to use to share this??

  • Well you could send someone the link I guess?
  • "... i discovered that the CHurch did not disappear during the time of the apostles..." and then you say: ".. I was frustrated that I had not been told about any of these writers before " - the writers who showed that the apostolic church had not died.

So, why exactly do you not want this to be distributed on mediums such as YouTube where other Evangelical Christians go?

Although you are not a big fan of YouTube, maybe those who desire to hear your testimony are?

I'm not bothered... im just curious - why? If you've already published it on the internet - why not ensure it has the coverage it deserves???
  • Make it a Youtube video if you want to reach the youth all over the world.

Youtube is very popular among youth.
  • Well in the first place it is not a lecture for Protestants, and in the second place I believe that Youtube is an ocean of trivia in which those things of value are lost amidst grainy video of kids doing stupid things with skate boards.

The chance of being discovered by accident is nil. So there is no point posting something there are hoping it is discovered. If someone is interested in Orthodoxy they should find resources on Orthodox websites. Anything on Youtube has links to loads of other videos, that just distract from whatever is being presented.

If people find anything I post valuable then I hope that they will share the link with friends who might also find it valuable. That seems more productive than hoping someone stumbles across some media on Youtube.

YouTube is simply where people upload videos on their own channels. Like the internet, i could equally argue that its pointless posting material on there because its a place where you will find porn, trivia, heresies etc.

YouTube has videos from how to fix a broken VAIO keyboard to Bishop Kallistos Ware discussing the ordination of women priests.

If heresies are being propagated on there against our Church, I find it bewildering why counter responses are not added. Its totally illogical.

But I'm glad we differ in this.

Thanks for explaining at least, I really appreciate that. (very good testimony btw! )
  • Just because there are lots of things on Youtube doesn't mean that it is wise to add to the list.

I am creating a website called Discovering Orthodoxy where people will be able to find out information about our Faith. I think that publishing things in a controlled environment will be more useful to people, and I can publicising the site so that evangelicals know it is there.

Youtube is not really analogous to the whole internet. Youtube is a single site. And if I go to a Kallistos Ware video I have a list of some videos by him down the side, but also videos by anyone and no-one who could be saying anything, even things which are completely false.

A separate website means that it can be promoted, and also that only things I want to appear there are seen by visitors.

    No worries.

Good luck with your website. It sounds like a brilliant idea
  • this is a wonderful lecture, Father Peter. thank you.
  • there's DeaconTube and GodTube :)

For me the only reason I agree with you guys about youtube is the comments. If there was a way to disable comments, then I think it would be ok... especially if you make your own channel so that you don't get the distracting videos on the side.

I never go on youtube and just watch anything... I just recently downloaded this igoogle gadget that pulls videos from the channels I'm subscribed to and that way I mask out everything else that's on there.

but regardless I still like Fr. Peter's idea of another website. It just may take a while to become popular. God bless your work Father.

  • Thank you Father Peter, God bless your ministry.

  • DeaconTube doesn't seem to have any sermons or lectures, and GodTube seems filled with Protestant videos. OrthodoxSermons seems to have died a death, likewise CopticHymns. So hosting my talks myself seems the only option.

Well, I am very happy to promote your site for you wherever I can.

I was wondering, seeing as you are building a site that sounds very good, may I kindly ask for a few feature requests?

Could you do a small database/web front end for Q&A's ?

    That would be really useful.
  • + Irini nem ehmot,

    Father bless!

I'd be more than happy to tweet about your lectures, if you like Father.

    :)

hehe... I don't know, but I cannot help feel that Fr. Peter is being remarkably modest about all this!

Fr. Peter, we all stand to gain from what you are doing. Please feel free to ask us if you need any assistance.
  • Wonderful Father Peter. Great voice & Very interesting.

If there's any way I could help in anything, please tell me.
  • If someone is in contact with DeaconTube admins I suggest you ask them to add a Categories drop-down menu, among these a 'Selected Orthodox Sermons' category for example. I think it should be generally useful.

EDIT: sorry, I've found a Categories menu option under the Videos menu title. I wish the menu list background gray color would be changed to something else for the text to be clearer. Anyway the site is good and is dedicated to the deacons' duties.

PS: Father Peter if you have the time would you please revise replies #81 and #83 in Re:"Am I responsible?". Thank you.

GodTube seems filled with Protestant videos.

so shouldn't that be a good chance for you to share your experiences with protestantism with them or will they not like that?

OrthodoxSermons seems to have died a death,

I think OrthodoxSermons is still up there, I just don't know why it's taking them forever to fix their site. Plus, I don't think there is any hurt in posting them there as well as on your own site... perhaps with a link to your site.
  • The reason OrthodoxSermons is slowing down is that everyone that used to work on it has gotten too busy. Now just the bare essentials are done. I worked on it (for 2 days :)) and I would say that it takes a long time because there are sermons on the old OrthodoxSermons which have not yet ben transfered. Please pray that God give those working on the website more time.
  • orthodoxsermons is working fine. Yes, you may not be able to listen/watch the video directly on the site, but you can just click the download original video link and listen/watch with your own media viewer. And the site is always up to date with sermons from the home church.

Anba Bola: It is such a wonderful and useful site! I am very thankful for the service that is offered through the site. I'll be praying for this service!
  • Father Peter, I just wanted to bring to your attention if you don't already know that your homily on James 2:7 ("Draw near to God") is truncated. "He has not lost anything, rather he has prepared himself to..."

I am really learning from your words, Father. Even the ones that end early. Thank you.
  • AnnaSimone, thanks for the news about OrthodoxSermons.

When I visited it and read the latest news it was dated March 24th, 2010 and the comments pages were filled with loads and loads of spam so it just looked like it wasn't being kept live anymore...

    http://www.orthodoxsermons.org/news/2010/march/download-only-content

I am very glad to hear that it is still active.

Actually - when I try to contribute a sermon it says that the page is missing.

I think I have had this problem before. Can you find out how it is possible to contribute a sermon?
  • Thanks for letting me know about the early cut off on the James homily. I'll get it fixed.
  • I don't login very often; sorry for replying so late Fr.

As far as I know about contributing sermons, you just follow the instructions on the following link.

    http://orthodoxsermons.org/get-involved/contribute-sermons

If you're using the new site, then this post hasn't been very helpful but if you were using the old, then hopefully your problem has been solved.

    If not, email [email protected]
They should be able to help.
  • As I said, the link doesn't work unfortunately.
