There was a meditation that says in paradise the saints make a celebration on the day one of them passed away. Church is heaven on earth and the same should be done. Also the saints rejoice at our mention of them and become our friends who might help us in tribulations and when we go to heaven, we would already know them. We also do tamgeed for them so we learn about them and how the image of Christ was in them and learn how to do that. Hope this helps :)
