Do monks pick their new name?

Sorry for all the posts. Do monks pick their new name or is it picked by the abbot?

    Theoretically, monks chose one thing: Never to make a choice again.

    I know that in St Mary St Moses abbey the monks do not get to choose their names.. im sure a lot of other monasteries are like that

    Considering the trends of new bishop names such as Zosima, Oligious, Yulius, i dont think so
