Psalm 150 for the Great Fast

Hi,

What's your opinion on saying the long "Alleluia+first Esmou" of Psalm 150 during the weekends of the Great Fast? Do you do that as well?

I always thought that this long beginning was only for the weekdays of the Great Fast but a deacon told me he does it during weekends as well.

I'm wondering how the transition is in the long Esmou to go to the weekends tune.

It is for weekdays and weekends. Muallim Wadi recorded the transition for weekends.

I'm sorry JoJo but I disagree with that. While this hymn is attributed more to the weekdays of lent, it is not weekday specific. Both Mlm Tawfik and Mlm Wadi record the ending transition going into the weekend tune. Mlm Habib and Mlm Wissa both transition annual and continue the verses annually...with Mlm Wissa switching after one verse to the weekend lenten tune. Most probably this was an alternative annual tune that got shuffled into lent....like what happened to ⲛ̀ⲑⲟ ⲡⲉ ϯϣⲟⲩⲣⲏ. Either way, it is not incorrect to chant it during the weekends of lent using the transition of Mlm Tawfik or Mlm Wadi. In fact, I prefer this over the newer innovation of constructing and chanting the weekend psalm 150 using the sherat tune.
