Explosion kills seven outside Egyptian church

"After the explosion, Christians were seen chanting beside a burnt-out car in front of the church: "We sacrifice our souls and blood for the Cross."

Lord have mercy on our brothers and sisters in Egypt and may You strengthen and protect them.

The BBC is saying at least 21 dead, which is the same scale as Bishop Suriel's blog.

May the Lord have mercy on their souls and repose them in a place of rest.

For those who remain and mourn may the Lord have mercy and comfort them.

Let us all pray together as we are, and then see later what we can do practically, if there is need. When the names of those who have been martyred are known please post them here so that we can pray for each one by his or her name.

His Grace will be praying a mass at my parish tomorrow; he has been a campaigner for the rights of people in Egypt for a long time and this latest incident will upset him greatly.
