Are these the same thing?
Is it necessary to be performed in your house... And what is the origin of this?
Is it enough just to attend an Kandeel in someone else's house?
And does it have to be/preferable to be done by your parish priest or just any priest?
Sorry for the many questions?
God bless and have a blessed Lent.

Are these the same thing?
literally in meaning, no but both refer to the same thing. the sacrament is 'the unction of the sick' = messhat el-marda. within the prayer, 'Qanadeel' are let. Qanadeel are lamps, the small cotton piece that are lit. therefore the prayer was refered to, arabic, as the Qandeel/andeel prayer. There are really two separate prayers, Al-Qandeel and Salat Tabreek al-manazel = the Prayer of the blessing of homes. I am not sure if the prayer of the blessing of homes is part of the andeel or not (begin that the andeel is really seven prayers). So the Unction of the Sick is for the believer, and the prayer of the blessing of homes is for the believer's home/home/apartment. Also, the Andeel is a set rite in the church that is done on the last Friday of lent. That, we really need to be there for. see clarification above. The tradition is that the parish priest uses this opportunity to learn about his parish and become closer to them in many ways. visitations are important for priests. As the Pope always says, a priest should go into a house, leave Jesus there, and he leaves. blessing the house a step into doing that. is that a question.... ;D ;D
