Hey guys, I noticed that after Pascha, instead of closing the book the deacons read out of on the podium, they cover it with a cloth. I was wondering what is the meaning behind that? If you know, please share.
well. Let's concentrate on it being open and not the covering with the cloth. The services in holy week are supposed to be continuous from the general funeral to the Resurrection night. So the book stays open all the time.
I accept that Holy Week services are in effect continuous but I have always been taught that if a church service is completed and people are dismissed then all books are closed. If a book is not in use then there is no need for it to remain open.
