Hello everyone,
I was looking for a good, orthodox source to supplement Bible reading, specifically the New Testament. I know of the Orthodox Study Bible, and some of Fr. Tadros Malaty's books, but I wanted others. I came across all the books by Lawrence R. Farley and his series called The Orthodox Bible Study Companion, but I wasn't sure if our church has accepted this as a valid source, I do not want to read something that could harm me instead of benefit me.
If anyone can help that would be great, Thanks!!!
God Bless

You are correct by saying not all teachings are approved. However, Origen's explanations are accepted in our church. I do not know Tertilluan so I usually do not read his commentaries. You will find many explanations from St. John Chrysostom, St. Cyril, St. Gregory, as well as other saints you will recognize. You will also learn to distinguish the spirit of their writing. In general, even if certain of these Eastern Orthodox fathers are not saints in our church, their spirit is easily distinguish to be in common with the writings of Saint Cyril, St. Basil St John, Ambrose, Iranaeus, St. John Cassian, Saint Ephraim the Syrian. Those are the fathers I usually refer too. My suggestion to you if it is not a father you know, take their sayings with a grain of salt and potential meditation - you can also take the opportunity to learn about to this person/Saint you do not know :) . The book has so many commentaries you will find yourself skipping many explanations anyways.
