Persecution of Copts in Egypt

edited December 1969 in Faith Issues
Hello,
I've heard that Copts are still being persecuted in Egypt. At the same time, i've heard that they are not being persecuted, and people are just making up a lot of bad stories? What's the truth? Is there persecution?

If so, have you been persecuted?? If so what happened? I'd love to hear from you also.

Minagir - what do u think? Have u yourself been persecuted in Egypt because of your faith??

Thanks,

well persecution is still going. now it's more cruel for the fact that u can identify the religion of the person. of course it would never be official becuase of all the political relations that are there.
u have to consider that egypt is a "democratic Republic country" ( ;D ;D ;D), atleast it's supposed to be, but the extra zeal from religious people just never stops. now of course u can never hear anything about this except if it's really big but persecution is there. but i personally don't think it's a problem. if our church is lead by the the true God, and He kept it alive through 20 cunteries, it will in fact live forever...atleast till Jesus takes us to our original place.

now i don't why is this quetion intended to me exactly but i'll answer it just for you vassilios.
no i was never persecuted in it's true meaning. where i lived in egypt, were many people who were relious but we all lived there in peace with respect. it's just that with respect to others, you force them to respect you.
  • We read many stories about 'persecution', and from the safety of the UK it seems unwise to comment, although I have Coptic friends who would use that word to describe their general treatment. But the Coptic Orthodox Church is founded by Christ and we have His assurance that the very gates of Hell will not prevail against it; and, for all these many centuries, He has been proved correct - as He always will be.

For those of who who have studied the history of the Coptic Church, the only real reaction is one of deep admiration for its faith - and deep gratitude that it is so willing to share it with the rest of us who come to it for wisdom and instruction.

    In Christ,

    John
