[quote author=mikeforjesus link=topic=5327.msg70960#msg70960 date=1179277485] Since Jesus said one of the least .. does that mean we only have to do each good deed to only one person?
Matthew 25 (King James Version) 31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
What I am asking is do we have to only do 1 good deed to 1 christian brother who is hungry , 1 christian brother who is naked , 1 christian brother who was in prison etc ? in total 6 good deeds? believe it or not I have not even done those 6 deeds.. maybe not even 1
Also I want to add will we be judged on what we do only to the LORDs brothers and sisteers (I think only christian brothers and sisters) or to anyone no matter what religion he is? I thought everyone.. but some think only what we do to true christian brothers (there could be some true protestant and catholic christian brothers but we might not know who they are only on judgment day) and some think we should not help beggars on the street.. maybe H.H Pope Shenouda III thinks that too.. but maybe he means only do not help those beggars because they will use your money to buy drugs and cigarettes and do other unlawful things
We are all made in God's image. By the 'least' he means the least worthy, the poorest, the smallest, the one we notice least - in other words the poor, the hungry, the unloved, the neglected. Can you imagine Our Lord not showing compassion and mercy to anyone? We too must follow His example - if we can.
wouldn't be easier if this translation is NKJV instead.

when He is talking about these real life examples, He's just varefeing what can we do to other. how should we treat others in the right way. also what John explains the "least of these". to add to that, it says in one of the theotokeias, "He toook what is ours, and gave us what is His..." so if we gain the things and the haracteristics that Christ gave to us, wouldn't we also use it as the source of them, Jesus Christ.

what we do to every single person of this earth. Christ didn't only heal teach his apostles ot heal only His believers. He did it for every one.
(there could be some true protestant and catholic christian brothers but we might not know who they are only on judgment day)
i personnaly don't agree with this statment.

and how are we meant to know if they will use it for something unlawful?
there was a lady on a footpath that wanted money.. she said she wanted it to get her bed back? I don't believe her.. nooffense but maybe she looks like she will use it to buy cigarettes or something
"(there could be some true protestant and catholic christian brothers but we might not know who they are only on judgment day)"
The text has to be read in context, and clearly Our Lord is saying that if you do something even for one of these people, you do it for Him.
Who are our brothers? Well, obviously, our fellow Orthodox Christians; and charity would suggest that we should include other Trinitarian Christians. But does that mean we can be horrid to everyone else? Of course not. We are His children, and if we behave badly, as with all badly behaved children, we reflect no credit on our Father - so we should endeavour to behave well to everyone we meet. We might not be able to live up to the standards of the Sermon on the Mount - but that is what we are called to do.

Well I do agree
