I wouldn't go too far with capital punishment, even GOD forgave the people who KILLED HIM SLOWLY and PAINFULLY on the Cross, if He wanted us to beleive in Capital Punishment, than He could have very easy said 1 word, 1 WORD and they were all going to fall dead, but instead He Said : FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY ARE DOING... if God forgave them, then I beleive we should too........
I read it and somewhat disagree..... it is mostly all references from the Old Testement (with the expetion of 1 from Romans), the Jews beleived an eye for an eye, then, when Jesus came, He didn't tell us eye for eye. my point is, that person killed somebody, we putt him in prison and God will deal with him after his death.
and by the way, a life sentence in prison is a LOT worse than Capital Punishment, ... when they use the electric chair, the person dies within minutes, but in prison, he spends years , or at least a long time in a cubicle looking out bars...
Yes, I agree with life in prison. I think its a far more severe punishment. However, if the verdict is made for execution, there is no contradiction with Church rules.
[quote author=Christrules link=topic=6648.msg89100#msg89100 date=1212372674] If we kill them are we not doing what they did,
i know they are being punished.
but what happened to "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy"
if we kill a murderer will we not be punished severely for our crimes.
Also:
I know they are a menace to society but, "Give Caesar what belongs to him and give GOD what belongs to him.
doesnt that mean we have no choice if the gov says so.
so it basicly means, if the gov. desides that he will be executed, we have no say.... but if we are guvven the option wheather e want him dead or alive in prison, than we shouldnèt pick to kill him....
Guys, Let me tell u what's the reason behind this question?
Do u people know Charles "Tex" Watson? He killed many people. He was a disciple of Charles Manson. Now, I had a chat with his wife quite a while back (yeah, she emailed me) - look.. apparenty, he's a changed man (he's now a born again Christian). Anyway, the mother of the daughter he killed (Sharon Tate) wants him dead. The daughter of the mother he killed wants him freed (she's a born again Christian too, and she believes that he's repented and now needs to be freed).
The mother of Sharon Tate wants him dead, EVEN if he's repented, because he killed her daughter, and she wants justice. The daughter of the woman he killed wants him free, and the two of them are just squabbling.
What do u all think? Is the daughter's victim wise in this?? Is that right?? Also, if he is a christian, why doesn't he accept execution gratefully?
Hopefully the person will repent before he is executed and God will accept him. But Jesus said "He who takes the sword will perish by the sword" ..that is very sad but that is the truth.. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Sometimes a person I think should be given more time to repent. St Moses the black lived a life of repentance after he was a murderer but he knew he had to die by someone killing him quoting Jesus' words. And it actually happend that the berbers (?) attacked him and killed him. He got to die a saint still. I don't know if there are exceptions to this rule. Did not cain live till old age after killing abel. He said to God "my punishment is greater than I can bear. Whoever finds me will kill me" and God said to him "therefore whoever kills cain will be punished" or something of that sort. I know I should quote the bible more accurately. Sorry. I just wanted this to be a quick message.
If he repented, he has to carry his cross, and expect the full repercussions of his actions. That is repentance: to know the evil you have done, and accept punnishment, but also to ask God's forgiveness. Then the punishment is only a trial for your salvation- a gain!

WOOAAHH yea i def think that capital punishment is wrong according to the church in numbers 35:31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which [is] guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.
so in the bible it even says that u should not kill someone who has killed
[quote author=QT_PA_2T link=topic=6648.msg89131#msg89131 date=1212386491] Also, if he is a christian, why doesn't he accept execution gratefully?
he isn't getting killed for the right reason is he??????? if he was to be martyred, than he should have no problem, if he was to be killed for the good of something he beleives in, than it is good (as long as what he beleives in is something right) but in this case , he would be getting killed for what? it would be as a punishment for what he did and has nothing to do with being Christian and repented.....
If he repented, and was killed for his sin; then he is dying for righteousness sake. It is his reconciliation to God, to carry the cross as Christ did.
If we are told to "take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which [is] guilty of death"; then would not the truly repentant take no satisfaction for his past, and plead for death, with the faith that this is the righteousness of God?!

Gosh, that's very well put Clay.
I think Charles "TEX" Watson who wants to be freed from jail is not really honest. He should welcome his punishment rather than ask to be freed because he now "knows God" and is a born again Christian. That's ridiculous.
He even had the audacity to get married and father 3 kids whilst in jail... what kind of life of repentance is that!?

Christ did say whoever takes by the sword will perish by the sword, but he never implied that it is up to us to do that. Meaning, maybe God meant something like what goes around comes around, if you kill you will be killed, because this is justice. But this doesn't necessarily imply capital punishment. Because if we, as christians, take that persons life, than we also will die by the sword. I mean what gives us the right or justification to kill someone and not expect the same fate. I guess what I'm trying to say is that capital punishment to me seems like us doing the same thing that the murderer did.
And maybe if he would stay alive long enough, he would repent.
Justice, as found in the Books of Moses, always implied that a person is rightly condemned by authority and executed by authority, and that the punishment should fit the crime. Murder in every part of the world had always given the death penalty. It is only in the modern world where we have Christians raised in this permisive and responsibility evasive environment that they have distorted the meaning of Justice under authority.
There is a difference between social restitution and moral judgment. Christians are commanded to judge without hypocrisy- not to not judge at all. Repentance is not pecuniary, and is actually admitting fault and unworthiness- or worthiness of punishment.
