Here's one topic that no one has ever really discussed yet.
WHat is the orthodox view on Beauty Contests? Is that immoral? Is it vanity? Or is it just, as the Brits would say, "havin a laugh"? "A harmless bit of fun?"
personally speakin, i would see nothing wrong w/ it because as you said "they're just for laughs/kicks. however, the whole basis of the pagent, is itself rooted in something very immoral. A Beauty Pagent basically makes women compete against each other, over something they generally don't have control of, thier beauty. Aside from modern cosmetic surgery, a persons, can not determine their own look, but instead, thier "beauty" was granted to them by God. I mean given, makeup can hide some blemishes, and peroxide can dye hair a differnet color, but overall, its God who made them look the way they look. So i kinda view competeing against each other for something you basically have no say in, is wrong. Not to overlook, that their beauty, if used wrong can cause others to fall into the sin of lust.
i think they are wrong in the churchs eyes and in Gods eyes because you are making ur preoccupied w/ the things of this world
"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." (1 Peter 3:3-4)
also at the end of the catholic epistle reading in each liturgy the reader says
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.
also beauty contests would pull ur time away from God u r so busy w/ ur looks when u should be praying or reading the Holy Bible.
