  • I guess its too late then

"The empty tomb, then, forms a veritable rock on which all rationalistic theories of the resurrection dash themselves in vain."

I think that means the fact that there was an empty tomb (remembering what was said earlier in the book) proves all theories that try to give a different account of what happend in the bible are wrong.

    I hope I am right.
  • THat actuaally makes sense but is there more to it ??? lol =) thanks mIke

keep posting everybody i need this soon

  • In ancient Israel, it was traditionally ,culturally and religiously impossible to claim that someone was raised from the dead with his body still in the tomb! I,therefore, think the line is saying 'whatever theories or explanations christian apologetics come up with to disprove the resurrection of our Lord, they can not get away without explaining why the tomb of our Lord was found empty. This is to say, the case of the empty tomb is a soild evidence ,a thorn in the flesh ,that could not be simply wished away.

    Hope I am right.

  • you both have almost the same explanations nd t does make sense soo i gess it may be right.  lol best comments ive heard/seen=))

  • I don't completely agree with this statement to be honest. Many people claim Jesus' body was stolen by the apostles and moved elsewhere. Some even claim He wasn't dead in the first place.
Of course, such claims are ridiculous, but still, people make them, and some believe them dispite the empty tomb....

    God bless

Godislove260,there is no doubt that you are an intelligent dude. Your posts have given you away ;). I really do not know where Madmozel Mahraeel got the line with the empty tomb, but it sounds something like C.S Lewis. The evidence of the Empty Tomb is something that has given Skeptics and Atheists chronic headaches since ages.

The most common explanation by these people is that the disciples concoted the whole scheme by paying off the gaurds, stealing the body (Mt 28,11:25) and claiming that Jesus rose from the dead. Then they worked together for the rest of their lives to spread a religious they knew to be a lie. This theory is wrong, cos it does not add up.Here is why: before the resurrection, the disciples never impressed anyone by being a courageous and zealous group. Infact, they were downright cowardly. When things got tough, they fled for safety when Jesus was arrested and hid after ther crucification for fear of persecution. However, when they realized that the Lord was resurrected, they became bold witness, testifying the truth of christianity and 10 out of 11 (except for the apostle John) even died as martyrs of their faith. This transformation from betrayal to torture and martyrdom testifies to the fact that the 10 could not hold a conspiracy together. The disciples were certain of the resurrection. Many ppl find it hard to consider dying for a cause that they honestly believe in. Take the Jihadi Suicide bombers. They really beleive in their cause and the afterlife rewards. They really beleive,it is worth sacrificing one's life for the sake of Allah. But how many people would willingly die for a lie?If the resurrection of Jesus were a lie, one could expect at least 1 of the disciple conspirators to try and save his skin just before being executed. It is human nature to succumb to fear and torture, especiallay when you know your cause is based on a fallacy.

Thus, I would love to know why you do not agree with the statement of the "empty tomb" as an evidence for the resurrection.
  • I think it is strong evidence, but its strength seems a bit too overemphasised by the interviewee of Lee Strobel. However, I think there is greater evidence- in our own lives :) Well, I certainly hope so- for Christ's sake, and yours, and the world's.
  • The Case for Christ is an awesome book but I do agree with Clay, he overdoes it sometimes. Despite that, the book provides a lot of answers to questions that athiests often use to criticise the Gospels; I think its good for Christians to have at least a simple answer to these so as not to be caught off guard. And its also very accessible, much easier to read than Josh McDowell and the like...

I agree with mike and Hezekiel - I think the statement just means that the fact that the tomb was empty immedeately disproves a heap of theories that skeptics could normally use to explain the Resurrection,  leaving only crazy, idiotic conspiracy theories (like the idea that Jesus didn't actually die, he was just resting lol ???).

I'm only young though, that's just my opinion

Pray for me and God be with you all

    Dear Hezekiel,

first of all, I'm not a dude, but a dudess LOL (a female )

    2) I never claimed I agreed with the theories made up by atheists to explain the empty tomb as I also think they are ridiculous as I mentioned in my post
but I still don't agree with this statement no matter who wrote it, because I don't see the empty tomb as THE ABSOLUTE ROCK SOLID proof for the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ
However there are many other things that do proof this fact better than the empty tomb

    3) I never claimed to be intelligent, as I know myself to be an absolute idiot sometimes, however, although I haven't reached the same heights in intelligence as maybe you have, I'm still entitled to an opinion and I do back it up with arguments...

    God Bless
