seven levels

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church
I heard there are seven levels of deacons in the church...what are they? I know one of them is where they can preach..i think the highest is when they can give blood..and i think the lowest is where they just read (the gospel or epistle) and respond as congregation...but what are they in order?

  • not seven, only five

Here they are from lowest to highest.

    Epsaltos (chanter)
    Oghnostos (reader)
    Epidiakon (assistant deacon)
    Deacon (full deacon)
    Archdeacon (head of deacons)

Yes, an Archdeacon can give blood.
  • So can the full deacon

you mean seven ranks of clergy; which are:

    Deacons,
    Archdeacons,
    Priests,
    Hegumens
    Bishops
    Metropolitans
    Archbishop (Patriarch)
