converting to the coptic orthodox faith

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church
Hello,
I have recently gotten engaged to a wonderful man who is Coptic Orthodox. I am Catholic and although he would never ask me to convert I have suggested it. We have been to church together many. My converting is not simply because we're getting married but because I feel I have developed a closer relationship wit God as a result of my introduction to this faith.
We're meeting with the priest tomorrow to discuss all of these things. I'm just a little nervous when he asks for my reasons for converting. I know that a person should not convert just because of marriage. However, the truth is i might never have been introduced to this religion had I not met my fiance. And so I'm considering converting as a result of his introducing me to the church.
Would the priest say that I am converting for the wrong reason? I guess is my biggest concern.

  • If you really believe with your heart, I think that converting won't be a problem, but it isn't as easy as it seems, (well, at least it shouldn't) you have to learn a lot about the church and in some churches it is a very rigorous course to orthodoxy. There is more to it than being close to God, fasting 2/3rds of the year, praying, and you must be able to do things things, not because you have to, but because you want to. But on a brighter note, it seems like you are converting for all the right reasons, God be with you and I'm sure the priest will guide you and help you a lot!

    God Bless.
