A great saying about prayer, I dont remember who said it, is "If a person believes that he can achieve repentance without prayer is indeed deceived by the devils"
Its a great saying that shows the importance of prayer

I would give you some, but their essence is in arabic, (Bostan el Rohban)... there are whole sections with the sayings of the Fathers about such topics... there you go, now you have a reason to learn to read arabic (to improve it anyways)...
