Tasbeha.org Alias

edited December 1969 in Random Issues
Hi,

You know that the Coptic Orthodox Church doesn't have many forum sites, and tasbeha.org is probably one of the best ones.

I think this site is very useful and valuable. The only problem is, tasbeha means "praise" in arabic. its not a name that really reflects our Church. Do you think it would be a good idea to create a website that reflected our Church's name and linked it to the tasbeha.org site? i.e. just an alias link or DNS forwarding??

Its a shame..

I think when people hear the word "tasbeha" , they have no idea what it means.

Anyway, its just a suggestion. Its an excellent site and i think it will allow many people to come and ask us questions about our faith.

  • I thought it was a Coptic word? Doesn't praise in arabic mean "sabah"?

well the forum is something "extra" on tasbeha.org we are defined as "Tasbeha.org : Coptic Hymns, Praises, and Divine Liturgies"

Nope....the coptic word for praise is "[coptic]Hwc[/coptic]". Tasbeha(arabic)= praise (as a noun)
  • I knew that.

    Leave me alone.

Im just concerned that people confuse this word with anything Islamic. The word tasbeha is Arabic - Its the infinitive of Praise.
Sabah or Saba7 is just the participle.

    So you have:

    I b'sabah
    you bit sabah
    They bee'Sabahoo
    We bin Sabah

So, in Islam, the word "Tasbeha" is also used.. Of course it doesn't sound anything like as funky as ours.. but this site was dedicated to hymns of praise (no doubt). However, its an extremely good resource on Coptic Theology and Spirituality through its links and forum.

And calling it "Tasbeha" is a bit misleading for those that don't know Arabic nor the Coptic Church that well.. as seen by your own predicament in thinking that tasbeha was a Coptic word.

Anyway, it was just a suggestion.
    Thanks
  • It's not a bad idea...
    Who's else is on board... ;D ;) :P
    God bless, Pray for me,

Ahahaha now that made me laugh.

I don't know if it's just me, but I don't really see this as a significant issue. It just is what it is, and anyone on here not living in a cave should realize that the word "tasbeha" is not associated with Islam.

exactly.....Islam doesn't consider "tasbeh"=praising to be anything. the closest thing of this word to Islam is the fact that it is an Arabic word.....

In islam, they have Tasbih or praises for their god also.

I guess you must be living in a cave.

Their "praise" or tasbih sounds nothing like ours - yet it is called TASBIH in Islam

I find it remarkable that you could not only be this ignorant, but instead of having the humility to ask, you phrase your entire post as if I've been living in a cage. Of course, Mina is only too willing to agree with anything where anyone disagrees with me.

In fact, they even have prayers of Tasbih (praise) in Islam.

What a load of nonsense. As I mentioned, they even HAVE prayers called Salat il Tasbih.

For goodness sake!! I just posted this as a recommendation.

Mina, could you do me a BIG favour? Could you NEVER answer any of my posts?? AGAIN!?

Here mina, feel free to read this and educate yourself before spurting out rubbish

I think its easy to type TASBIH in google and just look this up???!! ISNT IT!!?

But this site is called "Tasbeha." google the name:

the first page, are ALL coptic, believe it or not.
    so is the second page,
so is the third page expect for a facebook account of someone.

It took a few seconds. I knew they had tasbih in Islam.

Tasbeha is just another way of writing it, or saying it, but if you googled tasbeha, you'll get sites relating to the Coptic Church SIMPLY because tasbeha.org is a well known site. Go at the end, and you'll find that Tasbeha is JUST AN ARABIC word that means praise. They have praise in Islam.

Try changing it to TASBIHA (with an "I") and you'll get the islamic sites.

The good news is that Tasbeha.org is high up on the Google ranks... but it doesn't mean that its ONLY a Coptic thing.

good luck with forceing to do that.

Why not? LEAVE ME IN PEACE!!!
You have no mercy in you. If you respond to any of my threads, you attack me personally.. and its with COMPLETE ignorance on top of that. Its extremely childish.

But this site is called "Tasbeha." google the name:

As I said, TYPE TASBIHA (with an "I") and you'll get the muslim sites showing in google. Its just, as a I said, the word "tasbeha" in Google has a high "hit count" for this site.

Or just type it in arabic to get everything in google.

But to go and think that "TASBEHA" is only Christian, its wrong. They have this in Islam, and u spell it Tasbeha, they spell it TASBIHA, and they usually use the participle "Tasbih" (which we use also).

Stop this ignorance Mina. Its annoying.

  • Can we break into half-time until the referee shows up? He'll be here shortly.

In the mean time, folks, enjoy the commercials (aka: other threads) and refreshments (aka: hymns and liturgies).

Please don't go away. We will resume after the break.
  • If we see an argument starting then can we just drop out of the conversation for a little while. Whether it is our fault or not. There is not much value in posts that are written out of agitation of heart, and still less those written in anger.

I suggest that if you/we/I sense a thread is going that way we just don't post for a while in that thread. There is no need for any of us to 'win', and no-one is consider a 'loser' if they exercise discretion in when to post and how to post.

    Peace be with us all.

    Its no worries.

I have the record for asking questions. Asking questions MEANS that I am humbly exposing my ignorance. I am humbly trying to find information that could help me grow in knowledge.

If I am ridiculed, or attacked , or mocked for asking a question, then I will be severe. Not for me; but it is a destructive environment for learning. This isn't the way. Of course, to top it off, when I'm ridiculed for my comments and corrected with FALSE information, you cannot expect one not to get upset? Can you?

This type of attacking has to stop. It is far from productive. We are here to learn, and me above anyone have many things to learn.

Telling someone they have been living in cave if they do not know that tasbeha is only for Coptic Christians is sad. Its sad because it means that no one even bothered to check resources on the internet to see whether this is the case. It means that whatever I say is already taken as if its incorrect. That's extremely hurtful. I don't claim to know everything. But for me, if I state anything, I assume it is general knowledge. AND IF ITS INCORRECT, we should correct each other with humility, not sarcasm, nor ridicule.

    THanks

Were you talking to me or Zoxsasi and Mina?
  • All of us, on all threads, both now and in the future.

It was not addressed to anyone in particular.
  • I'm still confused. Sorry, you want want people (like me) to not interfere during arguments, or you want people who are arguing (like Mina and Zoxsasi) to drop out of the threads?
  • Lol! I thought I was being clear without needing to be too clear.

If an argument is starting I think that generally those becoming involved in the argument should take a break.

  • Oh ok, so you're not yelling at me, but rather at Mina and Zoxsasi. Good.

Dude, the main thing is this: this proves my point. THere are people out there that MAY think that tasbeha.org is Islamic if they did a google search. It is MORE than just songs and praise. Its forum is very educational.

That's all I'm saying. You need an alias that clearly identifies our church to anyone surfing the net.

Wow.. its that bad? I think it means we're going to have a good summer at least.

I don't get this though : In Canada (East Coast), the winter we have in Europe is considered "light" compared to what they go through for six months of the year. How is it the entire country is at a standstill?

What's noticable is that such bad weather brings loads of people to Church - there's nothing else to do in life when outside there's 2 meters of snow on the sidewalk.

You can't go to nightclubs  (unless you're willing to dress up as an eskimo)
You can't go and play soccer, or go out for walks (the wind shield factor takes a -6 degrees and boosts it to -30 in a new york minute).

Can you imagine? They have this for SIX (6!!!!) months of the year.

The infrastructure of Canada can cope with the heavy snow and bad weather, they've had it for years. Here in the UK (like just about everyone of our public services), the transport system can't cope. Nothing works in England (OK, I jest)  ;D

I'm not entirely sure that's what happens. You'll find that a lot of youth end up going to Church because its the only place open in winter time where there are girls, food and some social life. Its not necessarily "for Christ" or for any sort of "spiritual" or "Christian" fellowship.

In fact, you end up with more problems most of the time.
